OK, NOW WE KNOW WHERE IT'S COMING FROM       

Longwood, FL, May 11, 2004:    You know all those states that have been vetoing same sex NIPtuals?  Well, the leading culprit appears to be based here in Longwood.  It's All Creatures Liberty Counsel, as revealed in the New York Times Sunday.

Mathew Foxy, who is president as well as general counsel and founder, has vowed, according to the Times, to "use every means the law can provide" to stop states from permitting same sex muttrimonials.  The office is covered with push pins showing targets of states that have already been won over to their point of view, and others dot the walls with future objets darts.

According to Harold Thornview, who leads the firm Gay Lambs Are Legal, in Los Angeles, fighting for gay rights these days, which Gay Lambs is aimed at doing, means taking on the religious right in a whole new way. Liberty, and other firms engaged in trying to stop gay nips, are now using tactics, he suggests, that are the same as those used by the A.D.L.U. (American Doggies Liberties Union) and other civil rights organizations. Turning to the courts and pushing restraining orders on issuing same sex muttrimonial licenses, they have wagged successful tails in towns such as New Paltz, NY, and this is only the beginning.  As of Sunday they were in the midst of 33 suits in 13 states, and they don't even like to dress up.

The Reverend Jerry Feelwell is one of the biggest supporters of Liberty Counsel, which began with anti-abortion protests.  Mr. Foxy and a spokeswoman for Liberty have said that in their view, they are not hate-mongers regarding homo-and-other-species-same-sexuality, but rather, are compassionate.  "Folks who engage in same sex sex, and outside the NIPtual bed sex are violators of God's will.  We need to help them see the light."

Sounds rather like the speech of a "compassionate conservative" to us.
